This one occurred during my last semester in college. I was in a cognizant lucid-dream state and found myself walking in what appeared to be my current neighborhood, back home. The sheer vividness of this place, along with the level of awareness I had, was MUCH more intense than the physical/natural world around us.
Starting from my driveway, I turned right and continued walking down my neighborhood road; which eventually curves to the left and will take one straight out toward the highway. Once I was about halfway toward the end, I became keenly aware of what I believed to be God's presence off to the left side of me, emanating in the center part of my neighborhood.
I first audibly called out and thanked Him for saving me.
I audibly heard in response "You're welcome.."
I then veered left off onto the dirt gravel road and walked toward the center, and toward God's presence.
When I neared closer to the center area -- His tangible presence was now just off to the right of me, and up in a cloudy sky. I then asked out loud to Him (paraphrased) "What subject should I study in the Bible?"
Immediately -- a booming, thunderous response reverberated down onto me:
I was immediately floored, face toward the ground, and greatly stricken with fear. I did not want to continue further in the direction where that voice emanated from!
I awoke shortly afterwards.
- - - - - - -
- This point in my life, regretfully, I was quite backslidden in my walk with God...(Proverbs 14:14) (Jeremiah 2:19)
- Me appearing in my driveway of my current house and neighborhood -- along with God's tangible presence being located at the center portion of the neighborhood, I believe, represented how God's Eyes are always on an individual's life. Nothing escapes Him!
- As for further describing God's thunderous Voice: you know how when one yells, the source of that emanates from the vocal cords? In this case, it was as if the sky, itself, above me had vocal cords -- it was that kind of sheer intense (II Samuel 22:14) (Job 40:9) (etc.).
- With all this said so far, however, He does this for a good reason -- as He, truly, truly, chastises those He loves (Hebrews 12:5-8). On the road I was steadily (and subtly) being lead down, I probably would have been at greater risk of falling away, entirely, at that point, if not for the Lord's intervention there.
II Samuel 22:14
...The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice...
...(1)Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, (2)Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
(3)Then Job answered the LORD, and said, (4)Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. (5)Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
(6)Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, (7)Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. (8)Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? (9)Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?...
...(14)The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself...
...(19)Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts. (20)For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot. (21)Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?
(22)For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD...
...(5)And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: (6)For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. (7)If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? (8)But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. (9)Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? (10)For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness...
